Thieves Hockey Tryouts

Thieves Hockey hosts annual tryouts each fall for both our Boys 37's (September) and Girls 37’s (October) elite programming. 

Players not chosen for the Thieves 37's team will undergo assessment for our Thieves Selects (Lower Elite) or Thieves Red (Upper Open) teams. Please be aware, not everyone is guaranteed a spot on our teams. Thieves Selects serves as both our 37's development squad and a talent pool for MN Youth Elite League (YEL) Alternate players. In the event our 37's need additional players, priority will be given to those from the Thieves Selects roster. For further information regarding our AAA teams, kindly refer to Thieves Selects or Thieves Red.

Following the September tryouts, if there is a need for additional players, we may hold another tryout during the President’s Day holiday in January when most Northern Minnesota schools are off.

Thieves 37's can also be chosen directly by the Thieves Hockey Club and the respective coaching staff of each age group. If you're interested in playing Thieves Hockey, please contact us to plan for tryouts in September.

Minnesota Youth Elite League (YEL)

LEAGUE MEMBER - Thieves 37's

The vision of the Minnesota Youth Elite League is simple. Build a platform for teams to get fair and equitable spring/summer games against like-competition. Our member teams will have scheduled games against known teams with known rosters before their AAA season starts. Participation in the Minnesota Youth Elite League "The YEL" includes boys 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 age groups for the 2025 AAA Season.

Do I need to be from Minnesota or Northern Minnesota to play for the Thieves? 

There are no restrictions as to where you live. Our players have traveled from California, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Manitoba, Ontario and all parts of Minnesota to play for the Thieves. Our practice hours are for development purposes and viewed as a bonus. Practice participation is not a requirement to play for the Thieves.

What will a season in the "YEL" consist of versus a normal AAA season? 

League participation requires a minimum of 3 games, as well as The Big One and AAA State Tournaments.

The 3 game minimum may include a combination of Showcases, Individual League Games and/or Tournaments planned by each organization. However, a normal AAA season will still allow for tournaments not sanctioned by the "YEL" and independently chosen by Thieves Hockey.  Thieves Hockey will still participate in tournaments we feel best suits our organization.

How many Tournaments will the 37's play? 

The 37's will play a normal 5-6 tournaments.
