Thieves Hockey Makes History: Record-Breaking Start to 2024 Season!

Thief River Falls, MN — The Thieves AAA Hockey Club, hailing from Northern Minnesota, kicked off their 2024 season in an action-packed weekend from April 12th thru 14th setting records and making waves from Fargo, ND, the Twin Cities and all the way to Hudson, Wisconsin. The Thieves 37’s, the Club’s elite division, showcased their prowess demonstrating their mettle against formidable opponents from various states and provinces.

The 2012 Thieves 37’s took center stage at the SDP Invitational Tournament in Prior Lake, Minnesota, facing off against tough competition from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Florida. Displaying an impressive 5-0-1 record over the weekend, the 2012’s secured their victory with a 3-1 triumph in the Championship against Vice Hockey from Miami, Florida. Jake Janecke, hailing from East Grand Forks, Minnesota, earned the title of Most Valuable Player for the 2012 37’s, with an outstanding performance, scoring 10 points in 6 games. Moreover, the Thieves boasted four selections to the All-Tournament team from the 2012 division. Brayden Boniface (West Fargo, ND), Jake Janecke (East Grand Forks, MN), Maveryk Holtman (East Grand Forks, MN) and Bode Ferrie (Moorhead, MN). ).  The 2012 37’s are coached Tyler Johnson (East Grand Forks) and Scott Schulz (East Grand Forks).

Not to be outdone, the 2014 Thieves 37’s made their mark at the SDP Invitational Tournament in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. With another stellar performance resulting in a 5-0-1 record, the 2014’s clinched the Championship with a 6-2 victory over Southeast Elite from Florida. Blake Sobolik, representing Hallock, Minnesota, stood out as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for the 2014 37’s, while four other members earned their spots on the All-Tournament team. Colten Leavy (East Grand Forks, ND), McCoy Stauss (East Grand Forks, MN), Kane Couet (St. Michael, MN) and Blake Sobolik (Hallock, MN).  The 2014 37’s are coached by Brett Sobolik (Hallock) and Brett Nylander (Baudette).

The success didn’t stop there. The Thieves 37’s saw triumphs across other age divisions East of the Metro in the Sniper’s Edge Kick-Off Tournament, hosted by Pro Hybrid Hockey of Woodbury, Minnesota. The 2016 Future 37’s kicked off their inaugural run with an astounding 15-0 Championship win over the Madison Capitals in Hudson, Wisconsin, showcasing their dominance with an impressive 82-9 goal difference over the tournament.

Meanwhile, the 2015 and 2013 Thieves 37’s displayed their prowess in matches against formidable opponents. The 2015’s emerged victorious in a nail-biting Championship game against Pro Hybrid Elite, securing a 7-4 win after an impressive run throughout the tournament. On the other hand, the 2013’s engaged in fierce battles against Pro Hybrid, ultimately emerging triumphant with an 8-5 victory in the Championship clash.

Notably, the 2013 Thieves Red team made their mark at the North Dakota Spring Invitational in Fargo, ND, clinching the Championship with a flawless 4-0 record. The 2014 Thieves Red took 2nd place at the Early Trailblazers Tournament in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

As the Thieves AAA Hockey Club continues its remarkable journey through the 2024 season, their stellar performances serve as a testament to the talent, dedication, and skill that define this iconic Northern Minnesota Club. With eyes set on further triumphs, the Thieves are poised to leave an indelible mark on the hockey world this 2024 season.
