Better Humans, Better Hockey Players (BH3P)

Better Humans, Better Hockey Players (BH3P)

At Thieves Hockey, we believe that great players aren’t just built on the ice—they are shaped by the values they carry in everyday life. Our commitment to BH3P (Better Humans, Better Hockey Players) ensures that our athletes develop not only as skilled competitors but also as strong, respectful, and responsible individuals.

Why the BH3P Mindset Matters?

The game of hockey teaches our athletes more than just hockey. It teaches us about life!

The Better Humans, Better Hockey Players (BH3P) Mindset is a commitment to excellence both on and off the ice, by building character, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

A player who embraces BH3P becomes more than just a good hockey player—they become a leader, a role model, and a person who makes their team, community, and themselves better. By focusing on character development, players naturally enhance their game, making them more coachable, driven, and more successful both in hockey and in life.

The truth is, 80% of players at your level have similar skills. What separates the top 20% isn’t talent—it’s character!

BH3P encourages players to show up in the classroom, respect their teammates, and give back to their community. Be the 20%. Because when it’s time to choose, the 20% rise to the top.

Core Principles of the BH3P Mindset

  1. Respect – Treat teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and the game itself with the highest level of respect. Compete with integrity, lift up teammates, listen to coaches, and never take a shift off.
  2. Accountability (Discipline) – Take ownership of your actions, both in performance and in personal conduct.
  3. Resilience – Learn to overcome adversity, push through challenges, and grow from setbacks. We are human. We make mistakes!
  4. Leadership – Lead by example, whether on the ice, in the locker room, or in the community.
  5. Work Ethic – Give 100% effort in every drill, practice, and game, knowing that growth comes from dedication.
  6. Team-First Attitude (Teamwork) – Prioritize the success of the team over individual achievements. Give back to your community!
  7. Character Growth Mindset – Always look for ways to improve, whether in skill development, mindset, or personal behavior. Show discipline in academics, respect for family, and commitment to personal growth. Be a better human!

Be the best version of yourself every day. If we create better humans, we will undoubtedly create better hockey players.
